Buffalo Valley Youth Association is a volunteer administered youth sport organization servicing Schertz, Cibolo, Selma, and the surrounding area of northeast San Antonio. As an organization, we are committed to providing the best in recreational sports opportunities for the children in our area.
Founded in 1974, Buffalo Valley Youth Association, or BVYA, as it is better known, is a non-profit 501C3-A organization. Formed 1974, the Board of Directors petitioned the City Council of the City of Schertz to allow BVYA to use the land located between FM 1518, Oak Street, Aero Street and Ira street, better known as H.P. Thulemeyer Park, for use to provide youth sports on a permanent arrangement. Prior to this agreement, kids in Schertz played in organizations in Universal City and surrounding Cities, The City of Schertz recognized BVYA as a proper entity and the most appropriate association to provide organized recreational services in the City of Schertz, as well as an organization that the City and its inhabitants would greatly benefit from. BVYA was granted the right to provide and conduct organized youth recreational activities in and for the City of Schertz and the surrounding areas. From that point on, BVYA and it's strong base of volunteer parents have continued to conduct and maintain a solid recreational program for the youth of our local communities. Over the years, there have been many improvements and sports divisions added to enhance the organization as the City of Schertz and surrounding cities grew. This growth has enabled BVYA to stand the test of time. Many of our current parents, and even some grandparents, fondly recall their days playing ball with BVYA as children. BVYA currently offers youth baseball, softball, basketball, volleyball, football, cheerleading, wrestling and competition swim club.
A close relationship developed over the years with Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District, who provides sporting venues for our many programs. SCUCISD provides BVYA the use of gyms for basketball and volleyball as well as football fields for football. Many SCUCISD teachers and administrators today grew up playing sports at BVYA.
BVYA has always been a volunteer ran and administered league. The Board of Directors and Commissioners are all volunteers. Parent and community volunteers have given countless hours of community service hours helping maintain the fields, coach the teams, and clean up in the gyms after games. Elections to the Board of Directors are held every year and rotate the positions between the odd and even numbered years. The Board consists of twelve (12) elected Board Members who all serve a two year term of office. See our current listing for the Board of Directors as well.
